The Armwrestling Press: The Pushing Armwrestling Technique

Only The Biggest And The Baddest Can Use This Finishing Move

You will hear me all the time on this blog say, “Never rotate and push/press an opponent.” Well, there is actually one technique where you can do this: the press.

The armwrestling press, or lever press, is a closed armwrestling technique reserved for the biggest and strongest competitors at the table. Newbies be warned, this is an advanced technique.

How Does The Armwrestling PRess Work?

The armwrestling press, or lever press, is primarily an offensive amrwrestling technique. It is used at either the beginning or end of the match. You rotate the shoulder forward and use your triceps to press your fist downwards and pin the opponent’s hand to the table. Imagine smashing a button with your fist or doing a reverse hammer curl—that’s the basic motion.

How Do You Train The Armwrestling Press?

Tricep pushdowns and tricep-dominant push-ups (diamond push-ups) are your tools for growing size and strength for this move. However, there is a big caveat: you need to be huge and eat a lot to have the strength and mass to pull off this move.

Any Notable Users Of The Armwrestling Press?

Jerry Cadorette, a USA born armwrestling athlete, is known for his diabolical armwrestling press. He is one of the few armwrestling pros who regularly employs its use to great effect against the competition.

Final Thoughts: Should You Use The Press?

Truthfully, this is a high-level, high-difficulty technique that not even some of the best pros use. Primarily because if done incorrectly, it guarantees you have lost the match. The chain of bicep to back muscles is significantly more potent than a tricep press by itself. The press is an extremely isolated movement and only recruits the triceps.

If you think your triceps can outcompete an opponent’s combined bicep and back strength, be my guest!
