How Training For Armwrestling Builds Massive Arms

In weightlifting and armwrestling training, time under tension (TUT) can vastly pump up your arms and give you insane size. Armwrestlers live underneath this metric. I have an entire post outlining why armwrestlers have massive arms—and it is due to their specialty. Armwrestling trains your biceps and there is a lot of science behind why training for armwrestling makes your biceps pop:

Mechanical Tension:

That insane force exerted against your arm and your opponent’s generates mechanical tension, which is the driving force behind muscular hypertrophy (increases in muscle mass and strength). When you sustain time under tension, your muscles must adapt—and they adapt by growing larger!

Metabolic Stress:

When you armwrestle with a partner or competitively, the stress you put your muscles under releases a ton of lactic acid in your muscle cells. Your body responds by releasing growth-stimulating hormones to help the biceps adapt to such stress levels and allow them to come back more prepared next time you are on the table!

Increased Blood Flow:

If you want plants to grow, you provide them with ample water. Your biceps undergo tension and stress when armwrestling. The constant blood flow helps to nourish their growth and peak. This process is known as hyperemia, or “the pump” for short. While the enhanced blood flow is temporary during exercise, it can affect bicep size, definition, and strength over the longterm.

Frequency and Consistency:

The last and most crucial part of armwrestling that influences bicep gains is the consistency of training for armwrestling. By consistently and frequently training for armwrestling, you are, by proxy, frequently training your biceps—to absolute failure!

As you get better at armwrestling, you will train and compete for longer. This is called progression overload, where you continuously up the ante on how hard you train a muscle group.

If You Want Massive Biceps Try Armwrestling

The sport is simple, fun, and hyper-competitive. If you want the biceps of a Greek God, it’s time to get those elbows on the mat and get to it. Remember to train competitively and with a partner. The armwrestling bicep gains and pump are off the charts when you train as if it were the real thing!
